RESULTS THAT SAVE LIVES
In less than a year, Mary Jane Torrie underwent two of the most impactful events anyone could face in their lifetime. While training for a marathon, Mary Jane started to feel a tingling in her leg. Within a minute, her entire right side lost all its strength. Fortunately, Mary Jane was on her home treadmill with her husband nearby. At the hospital, doctors told her she'd had a stroke and that she would never walk again. She simply said, "I'm going to prove you wrong." With rehab therapy and support from friends, she did just that.
At a fundraising party, Mary Jane was talking about her stroke and her dream of carrying the Olympic torch. It just so happened that a man with influence overheard her and made that dream a reality. She couldn't run with the torch, but she walked proudly, with cheering on from family and friends.
But Mary Jane still has one dream left to realize - to run in another marathon. "I work out with a trainer twice a week and go to gym three times a week to try and get back to that point," she says. "My goal is to start running again one day, but I just don't know when."
